CEAMSA and Poseidona to collaborate on bringing a new algae-based protein ingredient to market

CEAMSA and the Catalan startup Poseidona have announced the signing of an agreement to collaborate on the technical and commercial validation of a new algae-derived ingredient with enhanced protein content.

This collaboration is the first initiative stemming from CEAMBOOST, CEAMSA’s corporate venture program launched in 2025 to support entrepreneurial initiatives focused on innovative natural-based solutions, and one of the first incubators worldwide specialized in this type of ingredients.

The ingredient, developed by Poseidona, is obtained from algae and is characterized by a high protein concentration, giving it a dual application potential. On the one hand, it opens the door to exploring and validating functional benefits linked to wellbeing. On the other, it provides technological properties of interest to the food industry, contributing to texture and organoleptic qualities in final products, thus enabling the development of healthier and more sustainable applications without compromising the consumer experience.

The incubation process, which will run for nine months and involve teams from both companies, will focus on strengthening the ingredient’s technical and scientific validation and application development, as well as assessing its market fit in B2B environments. The roadmap includes work aimed at translating the functional capabilities of this new protein ingredient into tangible benefits for food formulation, with a focus on key industry trends such as clean label and plant-based alternatives.

“This agreement reinforces our commitment to open innovation and structured collaboration with disruptive startups like Poseidona, accelerating the market launch of differentiated solutions.”Iñigo Alzueta, President of CEAMSA

“Working with a company like CEAMSA is a key step to further substantiate the added value of our ingredient, prioritize high-potential applications, and move towards a more competitive value proposition by combining technical capabilities with market insight.”Sonia Hurtado, CEO and Founder of Poseidona
